Deep Natured

I pray to become deep natured,
like those spirit beings
we call trees, birds, and honeybees.

Wondering where it is
I may find my deep nature
is not a question burdening
the lizard on the rock,
or the rabbit in the shrub.

I may have been closer
to knowing who I really am
long before my voice deepened
and I was conferred a degree.

Stillness always brings me
within shouting distance
of the threshold to the mystery
I’ve been taught to fear.

Three breaths and I awaken.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
